About Us

Veitch Farms  is located 7 miles north west of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the "Land of Living Skies".  We have a mixed farming operation, consisting of 950 acres of land that we farm naturally, with the Land in mind at all times.  Four generations of Veitchs' have lived here and our family welcomed the beginnings of the 5th generation in 2003.

We have always understood that to be successful, you need to be diversified, but we also always wanted to do things as naturally as possible, because we believe the animals in our care do better, and we are pleased with the outcome, and our customers agree.  We provide Forage crops to neighboring farmers for their livestock in addition to raising our own, Sheep, Cattle, and Llamas.

Our Sheep

We raise a hybrid flock of sheep, which is mainly Hampshire and Dorsett which yields a higher lambing rate.  We also use this combination as well for the vigor and lean body mass that comes with cross breeding these two powerful breeds.  In keeping with our philosophies all animals are raised in the fresh air eating hay cut only from our land, that is fertilized with what nature supplies from the animals.  The summer season is when everyone stretches their legs and spends time on lush green pasture, where they grow strong and healthy.  All ewe's and rams are vaccinated annually, and de-wormed to insure health.  We implement an animal selection process throughout the year and older or unproductive animals are utilized by our selective market of dog breeders that prefer to feed there dogs meat from a naturally raised source that is not ill or filled with medications.

We offer naturally raised lamb or mutton from our farm, cut and wrapped to our customers specifications, whether is it for table use or for pets.  The lamb or mutton, is available during the year to our valued clients; reservations are highly recommended as we have a loyal clientele list, that comes back year after year.  At no time do we provide a selection of lamb or ewes from injured or medicated animals for either human consumption or for our clients four legged canine friends.

Our Llamas

To help in predator control for our sheep we raise guardian Llamas that assist in protecting our flock in addition to "Reba" our one and only miniature donkey and "Zoey" our Great Pyrenees dog.  Quality Llamas are available on occasion to those that can appreciate there value or for those that love to look at something exotic.

Quality Feed

Most of our Land is in production for Hay.  We have various qualities and mixtures that we produce.  We  grow alfalfa and alfalfa-brome mixtures, and bale in both 4' x 5' round bales and square bales.  Our clients utilize our feed for cows, horses, sheep, llamas, goats and rabbits.  We also grow oats and wheat for the small animal market.  These grain crops provide us with a small quantity of quality straw each year.

All feed is assessed for quality and animal requirements.  We only recommend to our clients that they use the appropriate quality of feed necessary for the specific species to be fed.  This is critical in having a healthy animal and we have refused to sell lower quality feeds to animals requiring a higher quality feed to maintain health.  This policy has allowed us to achieve a loyal clientele base for our feeds.  Whereby our clients can trust that the feed we sell is the quality we say it is.  Quality controls are an important part of having a finished product that we can be proud of, so hay is taken off the field at optimum times for quality retention and then is tarped to insure the quality is preserved.

Diversification

To further diversify our farming operation we offer custom pasture for cattle.  This service is only available for a small number of cattle, in order to preserve the growth or our fields and to protect that land that we cherish.

Life is Interesting

As if all of this activity didn't make life interesting enough we share our farm yard with a variety of small farmyard animals that provide us with hours of entertainment.  You will see chickens, ducks and even some rabbits running loose during the summer, enjoying the 5 acre park like front yard.  We also share our lives with several Boston Terriers which we raise and show under the Moonlitt Kennel Prefix.

We look forward to years to come on the land we call home, doing what we love to do.
